Having your wood deck properly maintained every couple of years is a wonderful way to protect its beauty and value. Some people neglect their wood deck so long that it becomes an eye sore. A deck that is cleaned and sealed properly, with the right equipment and chemicals, will remain in good condition for several years. To keep the deck looking good all the time, maintenance is recommended every couple of years. Maintenance methods will differ with every contractor but normally it will involve a light washing and then a re-seal of the horizontal surfaces like the floor and top hand rail. Every second maintenance coat, or every fourth year, the entire deck is re-coated including the vertical surfaces like the spindles and rim joist.
